Have you heard of pickleball?

It's a fun and popular game that combines tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It's ideal for older adults or those looking for a low-impact sport that can be played indoors or outdoors. The rules are simple: hit the ball over a low net and try to score points. You serve underhand. The court is smaller than a regular tennis court. Only the serve-serving team can score points.

According to CBS Sports Network, Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the USA, with 36.5 million people playing in 2023. It's even growing faster than football and yoga! It's a non-stop inclusive sport that can be enjoyed by anyone from 8 to 80 years old. People love it because it's a great way to move your body and have fun with family and friends.

If you're looking to play pickleball, Live Oak offers excellent facilities. The Suwannee Parks and Recreation courts, continuously improved by Parks & Recreation Coordinator Jason Furry, are a great option. Initially played by Dowling Park residents, Live Oak native Lynne Hutchins encouraged Jason Furry to bring pickleball to Live Oak.

The First Federal Sportsplex in the area offers six free outdoor tennis and pickleball courts that are well-maintained and have lighting for night play. The Suwannee Colosseum also has three indoor courts. Contact their office to check availability. Suwannee County has some of the best courts around.

If you want to learn how to play, contact Lynn at 386-208-2900. A beginners/recreational group meets on Tuesdays at the Coliseum at 8:30 AM. All skill levels are welcome; no equipment is needed to try it out.

I recently just started playing. Join us on Tuesdays for more information. My website is https://www.twistedrootsyogastudio.com/Live, Oak, Florida. Hope to see you soon!
